Dark curls and an unforgettably sweet laugh were all he knew of his sister's rescuer. Later, a second glimpse showed her to be lovely, and he heard her melodious laugh again. Darcy wondered what it would be like to meet this remarkable, and remarkably lovely, young woman. Would the spirit that caused her to go to the aid of a stranger be able to bring some joy to his lonely life? Would they ever meet, or would he always be left wondering?

Little did Fitzwilliam Darcy know that his trip to Hertfordshire to help his friend would bring him face to face with the lovely young woman whose unforgettable laugh had haunted his dreams for the last several years. Would she be anything like the woman he had built up in his dreams? Would he be able to avoid Miss Bingley long enough to discover more about this mysterious young woman?

Her Unforgettable Laugh A Pride and Prejudice Variation Her Unforgettable Laugh Series Book 1 (Audible Audio Edition) Linda Thompson Nancy Peterson Books

I enjoyed this book. Unfortunately I didn't notice in the upper part of the information that it is a series. It is not stated in the book summary. I was disappointed when it abruptly came to an end. I would not have paid this much for part of a novel. The reviewer above says it will be 3 parts. If each of them is over $8.00, that is ridiculous. I could purchase almost any hardcover classic/award winning novel for that cost.

Other than it being a series, I found the book creative and well written. Miss Bingley and Wickham are over the top, but that is pretty constant in these books. I have read a lot of these stories and just sort of page ahead when the focus is on those characters.

Her Unforgettable Laugh A Pride and Prejudice Variation Her Unforgettable Laugh Series Book 1 (Audible Audio Edition) Linda Thompson Nancy Peterson Books Reviews

I enjoyed this book but was glad when I got to the end where I found there is another book that goes along with this one. (Oh my!). There's some nice plot lines here, but quite frankly, I prefer my Mr Darcy to have more character layers. He's so sweet and honorable and such a paragon of virtue that I don't know who could stand living with such a man ... he is truly a man without fault ... and so is Lizzy come to think of it. Good read, but certainly not (IMO) one of the better variations.
To be fair, I must state that this is a serial, so there is a cliffhanger.

This P&P variation starts out 3 wks after Mr Darcy's (senior) death. Mr Darcy (junior) has brought his sister to London to finalize business, and make the unwanted exchange with Mr Wickham. Mr Wickham is more ruthless and conniving in this serial. He is determined to get what he believes he is owed. With that said, he is also the means to bringing ODC to each other's notice that much sooner, even if they still don't meet until the time at the Assembly Ball (canon).

Because of the near meeting, Mr Darcy is left with a very favorable impression and can not forget her melodic laugh. He is more sweet and receptive to Elizabeth that you just have to say "ahhhhhh". He is very protective of her and has none of the arrogance that is his norm, unless he is face to face with Miss Bingley!!!

Elizabeth is so adorable, she is her canon self in essence but is more courageous and just does what feels natural when she assists a young girl in need of help in Hyde Park. When she meets Mr Darcy again at the Assembly, she doesn't have the prejudices like in canon.

Mrs Bennet and Miss Bingley are truly their horrid selves but exacerbated!!! Mrs Bennet is just nasty to Elizabeth and is so blind to the attentions Elizabeth gets from the Darcy siblings, it's unbelievable!! Miss Bingley is ruthless and does not take "no" for an answer, especially when it comes to Mr Darcy. She will stop at nothing to get "her" man.

This first book was well done, though I noted some grammatical errors, but nothing to horrible that you can't decider the meaning of what's being said.

I would recommend the story to all JAFFers, it is an easy and enjoyable read!!
2.5 rounded up to 3 stars

The idea for this variation is a good one. A young Elizabeth Bennet (age 15), in London's Hyde Park with her aunt for the first time, thwarts an attempt by Mr. Wickham to kidnap Georgiana. Darcy and his sister spot her from afar soon after, and he hears Elizabeth's distinctive laughter. Although they're not able to get close enough to introduce themselves and thank her, Darcy retains the memory of that laugh.

Five years later, Wickham makes another attempt to take Georgiana at Ramsgate, which Darcy prevents. As in canon, Darcy goes to Netherfield a few months later and formally meets Elizabeth. Unlike canon, he does dance with her once he recognizes her laugh. It doesn't take long to confirm that she was the young lady who saved his sister, and he arranges for Colonel Fitzwilliam to bring Georgiana and her companion. Meanwhile, Mr. Wickham has come to Meryton, having been encouraged to join the militia by Mr. Denny. But he sees Georgiana, does NOT join, and instead finds a place to hide from Darcy and spy on them.

There's lots more going on at Netherfield, because Caroline Bingley is the equivalent of the cartoon Wile E. Coyote with Elizabeth the (oblivious) Road Runner. Caroline makes various attempts to discredit or injure her rival, trying to prevent Darcy from paying too much attention to the country chit. They all backfire and lead him to be even more impressed with Elizabeth and more disgusted with Caroline.

There are some unique plot ideas here, but they don't always mesh together that well. Something happens, is dealt with, and then something else happens. The villainous deeds by Wickham and Caroline occur independently, and if you omitted any of them, it wouldn't change the rest of the book.

There's a lack of understanding of Regency manners. Early on, Darcy is noticing how sweet Elizabeth is to dance with everyone who asks her. But she would be obliged not to refuse any offers because that would require her to sit out all the dances for the rest of the night.

The logic is lacking, too. For example, considering how early Wickham recognizes Darcy's interest in Elizabeth and how closely he watches them, why doesn't he take advantage of her frequent walks alone?

Characters are inconsistent. Darcy dances with Elizabeth twice at the Meryton assembly, and she is meeting with Georgiana regularly to work on music together. Mrs. Bennet would have noticed this immediately and pushed Elizabeth in Darcy's direction rather than bothering with Mr. Collins.

The writing isn't great. Any Regency romance that features the very modern "okay" and multiple "alright"s (which is NOT one word but two, all right?) is not very Regency. There are numerous grammatical errors throughout the book. Also, it's full of irrelevant details and repetition. Anytime something consequential happens, it's recounted multiple times by one character to another. Similar sentences turn up, such as that Darcy has never met anyone like Elizabeth, and that Darcy has never heard anyone else with such a musical-sounding laugh.

This is the first book in a trilogy and ends with Darcy and Elizabeth in a formal courtship. He's headed for London with Georgiana, but Elizabeth will be there soon. She will stay with her Aunt and Uncle Gardiner, and the idea is for her to attend balls and social events to experience the ton. Mr. Bennet wants her to understand what becoming Mrs. Darcy will entail and decide whether she can stand up to (and whether she can stand!) the scrutiny from those in Darcy's sphere. Wickham hasn't been caught and Caroline is in London, so one assumes they will continue their evil plotting against Our Dear Couple.

I'd originally intended to re-read this to refresh my memory and then continue on with the rest of the trilogy. The last time I read this was almost 3 years ago, and I'd recalled some of the more unique scenes but forgotten about all the book's flaws. I'm not interested enough to go on to #2 or #3.
